Capture the Charm of East Texas

ARE YOU WANTING TO EXPLORE?
Perhaps a few suggestions!
You will love strolling through our fair city. There is just no hustle or bustle here.
You will see a bit of history just driving through town with a lot of the buildings and houses built at the turn of the century.
Our downtown area has several antique shops with all those beloved treasures from the past just waiting to be found like glassware, mirrors, and furniture.
You can’t visit and not see our cherished Witness Park and Prayer Tower. There is plenty of parking and when you walk up to the tower you can hear the sound of the water fountain and every hour…bells. Four Paccard bells from France chime every hour and it is all so peaceful and serene. The seventy-five-foot-tall chapel is open twenty-four hours a day. It is a beautifully architected building and the grounds are immaculately kept. It is used for weddings and people also just stop in for a moment of prayer.
NORTHEAST TEXAS RURAL HERITAGE CENTER’S DEPOT MUSEUM
You will not want to miss visiting the Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Center’s Depot Museum which houses the Ezekiel Airship (more about this – see below) and so much more of our community’s interesting history. Or it’s Farmstead Museum which is, in fact, a restored farmhouse furnished with antiques and there’s a garden!
OUR EZEKIEL AIRSHIP REPLICA
Simply amazing! Step back Wright Brothers! A year before they made their flight at Kitty Hawk, Rev. Burrell Cannon from Pittsburg, Texas flew his Ezekiel Airship 160 feet before coming down but there was very little written about it. Housed in the Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Center’s Depot Museum, there is a full-size replica of the original Ezekiel Airship. It is a must-see as we are all quite proud of Rev. Cannon’s historical accomplishment and our place in history!
Want to mingle with the locals? This is where you can be sure to find them gathered. Though people do come from far and wide to taste their wines and delicious food, this winery and restaurant has captured the heart of those who live right here in our area. It is a wonderful dining experience and the wine…heavenly.
